University Hospital | Project Spotlight

· Reading Time: 1 minute

In an existing facility called University Hospital in Augusta, GA, new forWard Headwalls were born.

Phase I of the renovation and forWard Headwall installation (16 headwalls) just wrapped up. We’re already excited to see Phase II (17 headwalls) begin this summer. University Hospital contracted directly with forWard® to assist them with a renovation of (33) post-surgical patient rooms on the 6th floor.

Notes from an article in The Augusta Chronicle:

Second and largest phase of the three-part ER expansion and renovation.

Designed to treat up to 100,000 patients per year (more than double what the hospital’s existing department accommodated).

The 58,000-square-foot project was necessitated by the growth and graying of metro Augusta’s population.

University Hospital’s emergency department is the busiest in the metro area, seeing more than 80,000 patients a year.

The expansion project was approved in 2016 by the health care system’s board of directors.

The expansion and renovation increases the number of patient rooms to 77.

Aims to improve the clinical workflow for physicians and nurses by grouping rooms around six “pods” equipped with their own staff and supplies.

In conclusion, we want to thank the amazing team that came together to create such an extraordinary installment. Additionally, Louis Batson of Batson Associates / architect. J.W. Cleveland / general contractor for the renovation work. Also, special thanks to Randy Rogers of Steve Ward & Associates, / project manager for the casework scope of work. Casework / contracted through J.W. Cleveland.
